Windsor Heights Neighborhood Association Committees

These committees have been formed in accordance with the bylaws. At least one member of the board of directors is on each committee to act as liaison to Board meetings.

City Issues Committee

Purpose: To remain aware and current on any and all issues affecting the residents, businesses and property owners in the City of Windsor Heights.

Objectives and tasks:

  1. The committee will obtain information via the news media or any other publication. After review by the City Issues Committee, the information will be given to the WHNA Board.
  2. Information should be given to the WHNA Board in a timely manner so that the Board may act upon the information appropriately.
  3. Information to watch for should include but is not limited to:
    • An addition to or demolition of an existing business or structure
    • The addition or removal of a traffic control device
    • Addition, deletion or relocation of a DART stop or route
    • Zip code boundary change(s)
    • Personnel changes within the City of Windsor Heights
    • Events, both city wide and regional in which the inclusion of the WHNA could be possible

Community Service Committee

Purpose: The purpose of this committee is to promote civic betterment and social improvements throughout the community. Encourage neighbors to work together to solve real or perceived problems in a civil manner.

Objectives and tasks:

  1. Promote the formation of Neighborhood Watch groups
  2. Research and assemble information packets on how to start a Neighborhood Watch group
  3. Encourage social interaction in neighborhoods
  4. Provide information and assistance in planning block parties
  5. Welcome a new neighbor with a freshly baked batch of brownies
  6. Provide a source of local support for neighbors in need of assistance
  7. Organize a group of volunteers to offer assistance to neighbors in need:
    • Mow a neighbor's yard who is in the hospital or on vacation
    • Take dinner to the neighbor who just had a baby
    • Offer to take an elderly neighbor shopping
  8. Encourage teenagers and young adults to volunteer a few hours a month:
    • Babysitting for family emergencies (ie: relative in hospital, etc.)
    • Help supervise the playground at the park
  9. Organize a community-wide "lending library" for tools not used frequently:
    • Collect and store donated tools to be made to be "checked out" similar to a library book. (ie: chain saw, pole trimmer, garden tiller, etc.)
  10. Organize a community-wide "work exchange"
    • Members sign up and list the skills they have to trade. Put four hours put into the labor pool entitles that person to four hours of labor from that same pool - ie: an afternoon of yard work for an afternoon of babysitting.

Liaison Committee

Purpose: To facilitate communications, coordinate efforts and avoid duplication of services between WHNA and existing community organizations.

Objectives and tasks:

  1. The Liaison Committee will facilitate communications between the Windsor Heights Neighborhood Associaton and the following existing organizations:
    • Keep Windsor Heights Beautiful
    • Windsor Heights Foundation
    • Windsor Heights Chamber of Commerce
    • Windsor Heights Planning and Zoning
    • Lion's Club
    • Board of Adjustment
    • Windsor Heights City Council
  2. Committee size will consist of at least seven memebers, one for each community organization.
  3. One person is to be assigned to attend each meeting of the above groups and report back to the WHNA Board with highlights of that meeting. If the assigned person is unable to attend the meeting, he/she should attempt to find a replacement. The replacement could be a Liaison Committee member or someone not currently on the Liaison Committee.
  4. The Liaison Committee person who attends an existing community organization meeting shall not speak on behalf of the WHNA, unless specifically authorized to present on behalf of the WHNA. The idea is for the committee person to attend and identify ways in which WHNA can be of assistance to existing groups.

Membership Committee

Purpose: Assure that the Association maintains a membership base sufficient to enable the organization to properly carry out its mission.

Objectives and tasks:

  1. Present by September strategies and recommendations to the Board of Directors related to:
    • Establish a membership goal for the year, both voting and non-voting.
    • Achieve a high rate of existing members continuing or upgrading their membership status for the following year.
    • Recruiting new members.
    • Create a plan that will raise the awareness of the Association and its work to all those in the Windsor Heights Community
    • Provide a list of recommended members to serve on the Membership Committee for the follownig year.
  2. Implement the Membership strategies and recommendations aproved by the Board.
  3. Communicate any changes in member status to the Board Secretary and Treasurer for proper documentation and accounting.
  4. By January 2008:
    • Present to the membership at the Association meeting in January, 2008, issues related to paid memeberships and voting privileges and a recommendation related to those issues.
    • Present recommendations to the Board by Nevenmber, 2007.

Social Committee

Purpose: To promote and enhance social interaction between citizens, local civic organizations, local businesses, and representatives of city government.

Objectives and tasks:

  1. The committee shall pan, facilitate, and/or sponsor activities that bring people closer together. Suggested activities include the following:
    • Sponsor/promote neighborhood coffees, ice cream socials, block parties, childrens' events, educational or entertainment programs, or other similar events that promote social interaction.
    • Administer all logistical needs for the Association's quarterly meetings such as securing an adequate site, providing adequate seating, and providing for refreshments.
    • Assist city leaders in securing volunteers needed for special events.
